Hi Luisa, just moved back to Berlin and we’ve just learnt my husband is gluten intolerant. For yeast cakes like this, can I just replace a gluten-free flour mix for all-purpose flour? Do you have a favourite brand? Best wishes! Lena

This isn't a yeast-based cake - this is a batter cake... I'd use Schär's all-purpose flour mix for cakes and cookies, I think it's pretty good! Add an additional Tbsp of milk or so and let the batter sit for about 15-30 minutes before baking it. Hope you both like it!

Thank you so much!! Sorry my mind just jumped to the plum yeast dough kuchen… thank you so much! Ps Love your Berlin restaurant recommendations on IG, now working through them to see which are gluten-intolerance friendly..! All best for the new Schuljahr!

This looks so good--and I love the yeasted version as well! Just frustrates me even more that prune plums are almost impossible to find where I live...

Thank you Luisa! I bought some disappointing plums on the weekend and was looking at a way of using them in baking. So this is perfect timing.

Thanks for the recipe! I have prune plums in the fridge but they are committed to the Marion Borros Plum Torte I’m making later today. Will try yours soon as I am a sucker for streusel 💕

Thank you for this! I just picked up some of these lovely plums at our farmers' market and was looking for something cozy to bake with them. This should be perfect!

Interesting observation about serving yeasted plum cake alongside a savory soup. With Tim Walz running for VP, there’s been more attention to the food traditions of Minnesota - including the tradition of serving cinnamon rolls WITH chili. It’s not hard to see common Northern European roots in both. So fascinating to me!

Just wanted to say that my son (6 years old) and I made this cake together yesterday, and it turned out beautifully! He loved cutting the plums (as you rightly advised for a child of his age). Also, yours are the only baking recipes where I don't need to cut down on the sugar. The sweetness level is always perfect.

This is so delicious!!! Perfect for end of summer with our golden afternoons. I have rarely made plum desserts, just jam as a rule. That changes now. A serious keeper!
